War in Kosovo. Albanians fight against the Serbs, Serbs fight against the Albanians. Neighbours become enemies, friends kill each other.

Danica, a young Serbian woman and her two children, Danilo and Vlado, live in a small Serbian-Albanian village on the banks of river Ibar. Danica is in mourning the loss of her husband who was killed in the Kosovo conflict. The heavily wounded Albanian Ramiz finds shelter in her home. Danica is faced with a dilemma – shall she hand him over to Serbian forces or try to save his life? Danica and Ramiz are in fact neighbours, since he lives on the Albanian side of the Ibar, near the hospital where she gave birth to her children. And now they are enemies. By hiding and caring for an Albanian Danica endangers her own and her children’s lives. However, they fall in love with each other in spite of her jealous neighbour Jelena who reports them to Serbian forces. Ramiz manages to escape and Danilo disappears. Children in the village fall ill – and the cause is the depleted Uranium ammunition used by NATO.

Danica runs from the village with the children, hoping to find Ramiz, who was mistakenly wounded by Albanians in the interim.

To this day the bridge over the Ibar remains closed. Albanians and Serbs live their lives divided. Consequences of the war are still felt.
